Meet The Designers •

When we meet an artist with whom our greyhound designs are compatible,
we are honored to feature their work with links to their own websites, if possible.

If you admire the jewels of our suppliers, we encourage you to shop with them-
but for any of their artwork embellished with greyhounds,
(or you want to assure the earnings are directed to Greyt Causes)
you'll need to place your orders here- with Northcoast Greyhounds!

Anne Cook

Anne Cook - Click For Enlargement

Many of you will recognize Anne Cook's Vintage Jewelry, having admired the antique cuff link bracelets we've offered the past. Since then, we've learned a lot about Anne- for instance: her necklaces, as you'll see here, are gorgeous! Artfully unbalanced and constructed from bits and pieces of real and faux antiques, we just couldn't resist them!

We also discovered that Ms. Cook specializes in stitchery- we had no idea she was so multi-talented until we visited AnneCook.com

Check our our newly arrived necklaces!

Michele Foster

Michele Foster - Click For Enlargement

The jewelry of ¡Libertad! is the work of Tuscon, AZ based designer Michele Foster. Growing up in Ohio, Michele dreamed of designing costumes for the opera or theatre. Her current work is rooted in the color and form lessons of a young life spent researching and drawing elaborate historical, often fantastical costumes and jewelry designs. These lessons found their adult counterpoints in experiences of the cool tones of Californian and Hawaiian ocean hues, brilliant southwestern color traditions and the dramatic natural visual forms of the Sonoran desert landscape. The cool, soothing blues of the ocean and the dramatic energizing colors of the desert combine themselves in her work.

David R. Freeland, Jr.

David R. Freeland, Jr. - Click For EnlargementA self-taught designer and a Metis (French-Canadian) Indian, David Freeland draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the Southwest American Indians and his forefathers.

Now that we've discovered his website, you can see for yourself the tiny Kachina Dolls with removable turquoise costumes about which I gushed- I didn't even realize that "pieces of each can be worn as jewelry!" The intricacy and originality of David's work is nothing less than breathtaking.

Alas, the most beautiful of Mr Freeland's pieces are beyond our means- but it doesn't mean we can't all drool over his artistry on his own website, and take pride in wearing one of the more affordable pieces we gleaned from his display - helping greyhounds find homes with its purchase, of course.

I returned only last night (9/6/08) from the San Mateo trade show where I purchased more stock - I should have some up on the website among David's current pieces this week.)

Hadas Shaham

Hadas Shaham - Click For Enlargement

Drawing inspiration from urban geometric shapes and bold substances Hadas Shaham designs pieces of contemporary jewelry formed by simple geometric and cubic shapes. The 2008 collection is reflective of Hadas' personal style and environmental space combining elements from new and old worlds.

All of the pieces in the collection are carefully handcrafted by the artist combining silver, gold, cement and leather. The artistic process applied varies from specialized hand crafting techniques to advanced silversmithing.

Hadas is a graduate of the department of Gold and Silversmithing at the prestigious Shenkar Academy of Art and Design, Tel Aviv where she specialized in jewelry, Fashion Accessories and Industrial Design.

Johnson Hui

Remember our square "Unisex Rings? Those are Johnson's, too, purchased when we first met. His line has expanded tremendously since then, and we'll be adding more and more pieces by this talented silversmith.

Holly Yashi- Jewelry as Art

Holly Yashi- Jewelry as Art - Click For Enlargement

Ah, Holly Yashi- with its sterling and gold overlays, semi-precious stones, Swarvoski crystals and niobium- there’s just nothing like it. Literally- there is just nothing like it. We’ve added the greyhounds, of course- just for our own customers. DO visit Holly Yashi’s website to drool over each individual collection.

A partnership of art and industry, Holly Yashi was founded in 1981 by jewelry designer Holly Hosterman and Paul Lubitz (aka Yashi), right here in Arcata on the Northcoast of California. Now multinational with a multi-million dollar studio, Holly & Yashi lunch with their 50+ artisans daily - a big time company who has never lost their down-home attitude. I like that about this company.

I like their philosophy even more: “We believe that beautiful jewelry should gracefully gather a patina of our life experiences. We envision a joyful child discovering her mother’s jewelry box, dreaming of the day when she too will wear these treasures, and be warmed by their rich memories. If a company can have a mission other than simple survival, ours is to resist the current direction the market is taking with shortcuts and suggest another way, one where good design isn’t something disposable, where one can take pride in something purchased twenty years ago and know that wearing them is an expression of one’s identity.

Holly Yashi’s jewels can’t help but make you feel good! Purchasing them HERE will make you feel even better in the knowledge that you’re helping greyhounds at the same time!

Marta Howell

We purchased quite bit from this silversmith at the trade show in San Francisco. The fact is, we know little about Ms. Howell other than the fact that her products are well made and artfully constructed. Hopefully, we'll hear from the artist herself before long so we can include a little background information!

You won't need anything more than good taste, however, to appreciate Ms. Howell's artistry with abalone!

We've purchased quite a bit- watch here to see the collection grow!

Kelly Mathson

Kelly Mathson - Click For EnlargementKelly Mathson is a local artist (Eureka, CA) who makes glass beads the old fashioned way, one at a time, using a torch, in her home studio.

And it just so happens she is the adoptive mom of Sophie, who Kelly claims is the sweetest, softest, funniest, most cuddly of all the greyhounds she's ever had the privilege to know and love. (Sophie is Kelly's first and only greyhound!) For more information about Kelly and some greyt pictures of Sophie, you are invited to visit her thoroughly entertaining website.

New Zipper Pulls are expected any day,
