JL Walsh Metalsmith Collection

If you've admired the natural and rustic designs seen in Sundance Catalog, as we have, you were undoubtedly admiring the works of JL Walsh Metalsmith. Each pendant has it's own special, handworked chain.

We drooled over so many pieces at the San Francisco show, that it was difficult singling out a small collection we could afford- we're showing you all the pieces we have remaining from those we purchased.

8Ball

8Ball is our Main Man- er...greyhound. Not only because he's so highly admired, but because his shape accommodates so many different uses. You'll see all three sizes of 8Ball often on our website, and an even tinier version as well - as in earring studs on this page.

The first, and original size is available as a charm, with a spring ring for affixing to your bracelet, and as the one shown here, with a fixed bail set perpendicularly to slide on a chain. He measures .75" from side to side. $35.

The center image of Large sized 8Ball is used on other jewelry pieces but we're no longer stocking as a broach. It can be special ordered for $50.

XL 8Ball is a highly noticeable piece, measuring 1.25" across. You'll see him mounted upon some stunningly large jewels, or all by himself as in this picture with both hidden tubular bail for wearing on a chain or pin for wearing as a broach. It was one of our customers who insisted he have both- an excellent idea, too! $85.

Just their name sounds romantic, doesn't it?

This is all that remains of those we purchased in Tucson last year- all tinted moonstones in ovals, rounds, faceted or smooth, and in a variety of colors.

Asian Art

Is it only my own vivid imagination that makes this agate appear to be an Oriental painting with Brynn racing in front of a snow capped peak, hints of taller hills in the background?

By an unknown artist, this 2" oval is surrounded by a ring of faux opals that glimmer much more brightly than this photograph shows.

BD: Big Amber Earrings!

This striking pair of earrings deserved two images so you could see the thickness of the amber- design is gorgeous, amber is gorgeous, and the dogs? Greyhounds are always gorgeous- especially Grace!

The earrings measure an inch in height below their lever-back wires, and a full 1/4" in thickness- the color is ..well...., pure amber! Adorned with Grace.

This intricate braiding of reed is typical of Native American artists and never ceases to amaze me- however do they create such teeny-tiny braids- and what do they do with the ends?? Why, the braid is not much wider than the 1" map pin we use to show you size!

Feather Clip: Koco Bunny Tell

Firefly 1

A new company for us, Firefly creates these mosaic style jewels in Guatemala, employing the indigenous people of Santiago Atitlan. The company's introduction is interesting to read- especially with pictures of Ricky and Rocky, the "ever-vigilant terriers" (that don't look like terriers to me!)

We were drawn by the colorful intricacy of these delicate designs- hope you will be, too!

No matter how you interpret it, some greyhound somewhere will benefit because Michele Foster's lovely pendant featuring "Runner" was purchased here. It's a win-win-win situation.

Including our usual 1" map pin for sizing just seemed to reduce the glamor of this extravagant pendant/broach, so here are some measurements:

The rectangular stone has 3-dimensional inclusions in a clear quartz backed with sterling, and measures 2.25" X .875" all by itself.

The entire pendant/broach, including it's curvy shell and citrine adornments, measures 3.5" in height and is 3" wide.

MF: BIG TQ With Feathery Inlay

"Stunning" falls short of describing this 2.5" deep turquoise centerpiece with its bold matrix patterns. The 2.5" pendant's feathery edges glisten so brightly with silver and artfully applied abalone and turquoise inlay that it's difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins.

Signed "Libertad", Michele Foster's trademark, this pendant is truly representative of Ms. Foster's professional quality and remarkable creativity. Our Large sized 8Ball feels privileged to share space on such a glamorous jewel!

MF: Double Jasper Artistry

I've always said I'm a fan of nice clean geometrics rather than "free-form" shapes. But, then, I was referring to normal flat pendants - Michele Foster's jeweled sculptures are anything but normal!

Ms. Foster's vivid imagination lends entirely new meaning to the term "free-form". Her designs are fearless, with dips and swirls, flat and round surfaces- allowing the natural form of shell or stone to shape the design- sometimes standing components on end!

This piece, 3" from point to point, employs two forms of jasper with our medium sized "Dave" stretched across Ocean Jasper, his back legs sheltered beneath a shell sun-shade.

We just had to show you views from every angle! Whoops- I didn't photograph the back which would show you that this piece has both bail for hanging and pin for wearing as a broach.

MF: Get To The Point....

Dainty and elegant in size, yet boldly spectacular in design and color. Michele Foster's combinations of lapis, turquoise and spiny oyster are accented by silver strips cast with lumps and bumps to catch the light- they almost look like pave'.

Notice the doubly inlaid bail- it draws my attention every time. Of course each piece is hallmarked with Ms. Foster's initials.

Oops- I forgot the pin for size guidance: the pendant's triangle (not icluding the bail) measures 2", where each earring's triangle measures 1.5".

We'll sell them separately but they really should go together!

MF: Opal & Sugulite

This bracelet measures 7.5" in length. The earrings are not by Mchele Foster, but they look really nice with this bracelet!

Northcoast Dave

"No! Dave", our first greyhound, won our hearts over to retired racers long ago and well deserved to represent Northcoast Greyhounds from our very beginnings.

Even longer ago, the original, more exotic version of this design from which our logo dog evolved, was created by Anita Gersch- we didn't even know it at the time and now, all these years later, Davie is still making new friends for us!

Toe to toe, Dave's sterling broach measures 2.5" in length and 1.25" in height.

Omega Chains

For pendants with more size or weight than a "fine snake chain" can bear, either safely or aesthetically, here's a much better choice:

German engineered by Argent Pol, the closure has sterling male/female parts to appear as though there is no closure at all! These necklaces are as safe as they are attractive (not to mention easy to put on) and a must for the jewelry box of anyone who regularly wears "medium" sized pendants.

We've pictured 16, 17, and 18 inch lengths here with a pendant measuring approximately 1.75" square. Works nicely, doncha think? Sorry, we are temporarily out of 18" Omegas.

Overboard Earrings

I may have overdone it. I was so charmed by these flowery earrings in so many sizes and colors that I just couldn't quit picking them up!

In a variety of sizes with a variety of backgrounds including pearl, frosted, and metallic, the tiny handpainted flowers are both delicate and colorful stand-outs. Though two appear similar, A has a deep bronze metallic background, and F is deep purple.

Tiny 8Balls and large, easy ear wires are of vermeil, and each has a rhinestone rondelle at the top of the bead.

Three Taureg Pendants

Interesting Facts: I've been shopping with this woman at the San Francisco trade show for years- her company is called "Made In The Motherland". She explained to me that she personally shops with other vendors at Tucson for stones and then hand carries them to Africa for Taureg artists to use in designing their jewelry.

It's easy to tell in conversation that this woman her heart and soul invested in helping the Taureg tribesmen She knows each of her artists personally and identified their work for me:

Tidepool Treasure

Delicate, jingly, and fanciful, this necklace was made by Koco Bunny Tell, the local Native American artist who creates the fabulous feather items. The lightweight 22" necklace is of rounds and ovals of abalone, interspersed with amethyst accents.

We added 8Ball, a faux opal starfish by Michele Foster, and a sterling heart- a sentimental trio of treasures to hang against the 2" oval wafer of brilliant abalone.
